General Information

ECPM has established a reputation as the premier European training center in pharmaceutical medicine. Training is offered on undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. ECPM trains students in medicine and human biology in pharmaceutical medicine, health economics and health policy. On a postgraduate and continuing education level, courses provide expert knowledge in drug development, pharmaceutical medicine, clinical research, and regulatory sciences. The ECPM Diploma Course (ECPM Course) represents the core of the postgraduate training platform. In order to enroll in the ECPM diploma course we typically recommend students have at a minimum a Master Degree and solid work experience in a relevant discipline. The majority of our students has a higher degree MD, PhD, PhamD etc. and at between 3-5 years of relevant work experience gained in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, service industry (e.g. consultancy, CROs), clinical research or while working for governmental policy-makers in integrated medical product development, regulation and market introduction fields.  

The University of Basel, in conformity with the Bologna system, offers three postgraduate degrees, this includes a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Pharmaceutical Medicine, a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) in Pharmaceutical Medicine, and a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Medicines Development. Degrees can be achieved by completing the courses in a modular way.

PHD in Medical Sciences (Dr. sc. med.)  Link
The PhD Program in Medicine Development focuses on the discovery and development of new medicines, clinical trial methodology, good clinical practice and ethics, pharmacovigilance and epidemiology, biostatistics, regulatory affairs, health economics, project management, marketing and new therapeutic approaches. Research projects are conducted in a theoretical Framework.


The postgraduate Training Programmes in Pharmaceutical Medicine are based on a modular format and can be arranged to personal needs.


The ECPM Continuing Professional Development (CPD) platform provides accredited high quality educational programmes to support continuing medical education and professional development for physicians, and pharmaceutical industry, regulatory and university professionals.


The master programme offers the possibility to obtain a postgraduate master (Master of Advanced Studies MAS) in Medicines Development (MMD) at the University of Basel.
